Design: Grand Charisma

Mitsubishi calls the look Grand Charisma, built on three design values: KAKU (confidence), TAN (strength) and JUN (timeless refinement). The body is the largest in its class, with long horizontal lines.

The GLS and GSR wear the Japanese-style Kendo Mask grille; the Super Exceed gets a Honeycomb grille that reinterprets the face of the first-generation Pajero, the Dakar Rally winner. The C-pillar is inspired by the roll bar of the first Pajero, and the rear, where the old model carried its spare wheel, has been redesigned to give more cargo space.

Lights, wheels and colours

The LED headlights and taillights are arranged in a T-shape and the headlights and fog lights are set into the body to protect them off-road. Dynamic Flow Light animates the lamps when the car is locked and unlocked, and the puddle lamps project the PAJERO logo.

Wheels are 18-inch alloys on the GLS, 20-inch two-tone alloys on the GSR and 20-inch two-tone black-tinted alloys on the Super Exceed, with ground clearance of 219 to 228 mm depending on grade. The wheel-arch mouldings are ready for a snorkel.

There are nine colours in all, with Armour Copper and Phantom Blue (grey-blue with gold sparkle) as the highlights. Special colours add ฿20,000.

Interior: Camel-Black and Japanese craft

The cabin is finished in a Camel-Black pairing with concealed ambient lighting and Semi-Aniline leather seats. The panoramic roof is the largest in the class.

The dashboard panel uses Kimekomi, a traditional Japanese technique that presses high-quality synthetic leather deep into the surface, while the door panels carry S-curve stitching. The grab handles on the console recall the first Pajero.

Screens and technology

A monolithic dual display combines the touchscreen and the driver display: 12.3 inches on the GLS and GSR, 14.3 inches on the Super Exceed. It shows 16 dynamic graphic themes that change with the time of day.

The classic three-gauge layout is reinterpreted as a digital Multi Meter that shows pitch and roll, incline, altitude, heading and a clock. MITSUBISHI CONNECT adds emergency and roadside calls, collision and theft notifications and remote functions such as climate control, horn and lights, a car finder and a mileage tracker.

Space for seven

The seven-seat cabin is designed for generous headroom, shoulder room and legroom in every row. The front seats have 8-way power adjustment, power lumbar support and ventilation; the second row splits 60:40, slides 150 mm and tumbles forward for access to the third row, which splits 50:50.

The power tailgate has a hands-free function.

Sound and quiet

Acoustic glass on five windows (windscreen, front doors and rear doors) and sound-absorbing material around the cabin are meant to cut wind, road and engine noise so that every passenger can talk naturally.

The GLS and GSR have a six-speaker audio system. The Super Exceed adds Dynamic Sound Yamaha Ultimate, developed with Yamaha Corporation, with 12 speakers, a subwoofer, three automatic volume compensations (speed, rain and air conditioning), four sound modes and five listening positions.

Engine and gearbox

The 2.4L four-cylinder common-rail diesel (4N16 Gen 2) uses a wide-range single variable-geometry turbo, a water-cooled intercooler and low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation to cut fuel use and emissions. It makes 150 kW (204 hp) at 3,500 rpm and 480 Nm from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm.

The new 8-speed automatic has a Sport mode and paddle shifters. The fuel tank holds 80 litres. Mitsubishi's kit does not publish fuel economy.

Built for rough roads

The ladder frame has been redeveloped with more high-strength steel for stiffness. Suspension is independent double wishbone at the front with a high-mounted layout and a 5-link torque-arm rear, with long wheel travel for what Mitsubishi calls off-road comfort.

The 4WD Super Exceed has Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) and Super Select 4WD-II with four modes: 2H (rear-wheel drive), 4H (full-time 4WD, 40:60 torque split), 4HLc (locked part-time 4WD) and 4LLc (locked with low range). Seven drive modes (Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, Rock), an active LSD and Hill Descent Control complete the kit. The Pajero was tested for more than 100,000 km on Thai roads.

Safety: Diamond Sense

Diamond Sense covers 360 degrees with cameras, sensors and radar. The GLS and GSR have 13 systems, including adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, lane change assist, forward collision mitigation, lane departure prevention and a multi-camera around monitor with a see-through front ground view. The Super Exceed adds rear cross traffic brake, lane keep assist and traffic sign recognition.

There are seven airbags (driver, driver's knee, front passenger, side and curtain) and 22 basic safety systems. The Super Exceed also gets MI-PILOT, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist.

44 years of Pajero

This is the fifth generation of a nameplate that began in 1982 and won the Dakar Rally overall in 1985, the first overall win by a Japanese manufacturer. The new model is built at Mitsubishi's Laem Chabang plant in Chonburi, with more than 80% of its suppliers based in Thailand, and Thailand is the first market in the world to sell it, ahead of Japan and Australia in fiscal 2026.
